We care about you and we care about our world.
Now many say this but we are putting this into practice.
We are beginning an exiting venture of creating opportunities for fathers and sons or fathers and daughters to impact the people of Nicaragua and in so doing build a lifelong parent kid experience that will never be forgotten.
This vision began with a 12 year old girl, Caylin Sanderson-Smith, who told her dad that she believed God wanted her and him to do a mission trip together. To share a chance to be used by God to make an impact in the world and to build into their relationship. That is over 10 years ago now.
SuNica (sunica.com) was the mission organization of choice because of a few reasons.
We believe that the family is key for a healthy culture. We believe that families should be celebrated and especially the relationships between fathers and their sons and daughters. We also care about mothers but that is another program and another opportunity.
We believe that we have a unique window, a small opportunity when a son or daughter child is old enough to make some reasonable and wise decisions but also young enough to be influenced in a healthy way. We want to create more chances to see this happen before we blink and they are raising their own children.
Are there not many places in USA or in fact in Michigan that needs help and the Gospel. The answer is yes, of course. But, Jesus calls us to Jerusalem, Judea, Sumerian and to the ends of the earth. His statement or commission, highlights that all the work is important but we have found that when you take an American family or audience outside the comforts of language, cuisine and culture they are suitably disrupted by what they experience. They are released from the media and momentary insulation bubble of North America and begin to see a whole ‘other world’ not filtered through social media and prejudiced lenses. We care about local too.
Each mission trip is a little different because SuNica now has many cutting edge and serving rolls on the ground in Nicaragua. Here are some possible works that the team will be involved in: Building projects (we build a youth center in 2014/2015), Work in the school, work on the trash dumps, assist in the sports and soccer programs, help with their fresh water project, help on the coffee plantation just to name a few. Each chance is a chance to leave a fingerprint, build a relationship, make a difference and be transformed.
You can come along. You and your son ro daughter can join. And you can also help us by support us with prayer and finances. Each father and daughter/son team has to raise their own resources of $2000/person. We hope to take 10 dads and daughters. We are also shipping down some fire gear donated by Lapeer Fire and Rescu
